Winter Sleepout
Friday 7th August 2009 will mark the second HOMELESS ILLAWARRA WINTER SLEEPOUT, which will seek to reach two goals – to raise funds for St Vincent de Paul Men’s Shelter and the Warilla Women’s Refuge and to raise awareness of the plight of the homeless in the Illawarra.
It is estimated that 1500 homeless people in our region (Including many children) sleep without shelter each night.
Senior Pastor of South Coast City Church Peter Starr feels that as a community we may recognise the problem but do not know how to assist. “People want to do something to help, so we are creating an initiative so that the community can take action.”
The WINTER SLEEPOUT09 is an initiative of South Coast City Church Thirroul, yet ownership has been given to the community, with all money raised going to the cause.
